Apple-of-Peru
Nicandra physalodes
Nightshade Family
This large Nightshade is an invasive weed found in agricultural fields or waste areas, and my garden. It is such a handsome plant,
however, that I let one or two grow each year to enhance the Zen of our garden. It may grow 5-6 ft. tall and has the upturned beel-shaped flowers,
which develop into green cherry-sized fruits inside papery calyxes, resembling very much a small tomatillo. Blooms late summer and into fall.
