Yellow Mandarin, Fairy Bells

A small plant of rich woods, 1-2 ft. tall, Yellow Mandarin has 1-3 yellowish flowers that hang somewhat hidden underneath the ends of the branches, which have alternate leaves. The flowers each have six long, narrow petals with flaring tips. Nodding Mandarin,  D. maculatum , is similar but the petals are larger, and white with purple specks. this photo April 29, 2004 Green River, Henderson Cnty., NC
