The striking flowers are bright pink in the center, with pink streaks running throughout the white flower petals. A higher altitude species favoring acid woods, it is common along the Big East Fork of the Pigeon River in Shining Rock Wilderness. This one photgraphed at the Mount Pisgah campground in May 2002.
