Sweet White Violet

Viola blanda
Violet Family

Stemless; small white flowers with purplish brown veins on reddish peduncles; not bearded; leaves cordate and round with a satin upper surface; smooth. There can be much variance--the leaves dark and satiny like these or paler but all with at least somewhat reddish stems, my observations have been that the ones in wetter areas have paler leaves. All of the manuals say that the upper petals may be twisted and that the flowers are fragrant but I have never observed either of these characteristics in the specimens here.
