Flowers are held high on an erect stalk and face forward. Closely related to, associated with and will hybridize with T. erectum  but distinguished by the very wide, white petals that often overlap at the rounded bases. The anthers are yellowish, the ovary is dark. T. simile  is only found in the rich, moist forest coves of the Southern Appalachian Mtns. in TN, SC, NC ("critically imperiled"), and GA ("imperiled"). Blooms April-May.
