Vasey's Trillium
Trillium vaseyi
Lily Family
An easy to miss trillium because the bloom hangs underneath large leaves. This one I almost passed by on the Looking Glass Rock Trail in Transylvania County. The flowers are steeply drooped below the leaves, deep red petals and yellow anthers that extend well farther than the pistil.
The ovary is dark. This is a Southern Appalachian endemic trillium, occurring only in a small range in TN, NC, SC, and GA. Blooms May.
